Specimen No. 59: Joy

Day Z060:

Agent Loeb reports that the technician who died never existed. He advises me to forget all about the matter, and I to impress upon all members of staff the same sentiments. Looks like we are not going anywhere, which suits me fine. Today's specimen I call 'Joy'. Not because he is joyous. Just one look at him is enough to dissuade anyone from making that mistake - but because at this precise moment in time I feel a strong sensation of joy. Note To Self: Check the batteries on you know what...

Specimen No. 58: Even

Day Z059:

No. 58 is a hard nut to crack. Aside from being relatively unaffected by necrosis, he is almost like a normal duck in temperament and behaviour. I therefore call name 'Even'.

Specimen No. 57: Ham

Day Z058:

John Doe appears to have been aptly named. I have come in this morning and find he is nowhere to be found. The quacklings are now beginning to get restive. Another one has been badly torn apart by its brethren. It is still able to squelch around the cage however. We call this new casualty 'Ham'.

Specimen No. 56: John Doe

Day Z057:

There has been a fire at the lab. Thankfully none of the cages were affected. But our research has been put in jeopardy. I cannot come up with a name for no.56. John Doe is as good as any.

Specimen No. 55: Hitchcock

I was removed from the 'project' in fear of a security breach. I had to undergo a decontamination bath... if you've never had one be thankful. It's not an experience I would recommend. Only now has the top layer of my skin returned. I continue with the duckies that we've managed to sustain in quarantine.

Day Z056:

Upon my return I've discovered that The lab technician has died. Apparently the infection from Macbeth's beak was quite overpowering. The agents will not tell us what will happen next. They just tell us to keep working. Still no results from the egg experiments. No. 55 I call Hitchcock, because he seems to have an eye for blondes. I have observed him watching Linda, Sikorsky's assistant most intently.

Specimen No.54: Malice

Day Z055:
'Narcissus' has a fan, but I refrain from calling him Echo. No, this quackling is more appropriately called 'Malice'. It waits for Narcissus to finish grooming before biting (ruffling) feathers out of place.

Specimen No. 53: Narcissus

Day Z054:
The injured technician has been swept off to an isolation ward. I have no idea how long the lab will continue to operate now that a human being has been injured in the facility. I must continue to record. Today we have Narcissus. So named because he likes to stare at himself in the many pools of blood lining the linoleum floors of cage C.

Specimen No. 52: Macbeth

Day Z053:
A huge vat of formaldehyde has gone missing. I swear something odd is going on around here. I cam into the lab this morning and there was a chatter. One of the quacklings 'Macbeth' by name, has done a Brutus and stabbed a colleague in the back with his beak, which became detached. There is no doubt but that the ducks are getting more and more aggressive.

Specimen No. 51: Grumpy

Day Z052:
I feel like Snow White today, living in my own Grimm fairy tale. Our work upon the eggs is continuing at a snails pace, and so I can but concentrate upon my own little dwarves. How I wish 'Grumpy' and his friends would help to keep the place clean...

Specimen No. 50: Priscilla

Day Z051:
'Priscilla' is named after my mother's pet dog. She's also the first female quackling we are inseminating - with uncontaminated mallard semen naturally...
